Legislative Update (Feb. 26, 2016)

Friday, February 26, 2016

Dear neighbors,

Earlier today, Minnesota Management and Budget released their forecast for fiscal years 2016-17. We’re facing a $900 million surplus, a drop from November’s $1.2 billion surplus projection.

The slowing of the economy is partially due to decreases in sales tax revenue. If we can continue on the path toward providing tax relief for middle class Minnesotans, our residents will have more expendable income. Because we still have a surplus, assisting Minnesota families through tax relief and road and bridge funding remain our priorities for the 2016 session.

As always, thank you for the opportunity to serve you in St. Paul. With the legislative session quickly approaching, here’s a short message to you, the people of Carver County.

I hope you’ll continue to contact me with any questions, concerns, or suggestions. During session, the Capitol will be closed to the public, but you can schedule a time to meet with me in the State Office Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, St. Paul, MN 55155.

Have a great weekend, and enjoy the weather,

Jim
