REP. MILLER AUTHORS FLOOD MITIGATION PROJECT FOR MAYNARD

Tuesday, March 3, 2015

ST. PAUL – Over the past fifteen years, millions of dollars have been spent in the City of Maynard to deal with flooding issues, as rapid snow melts and heavy rain continue to level homes, businesses, and other city infrastructure.

To help solve this problem, State Representative Tim Miller (R-Prinsburg) is authoring legislation that would provide nearly $656,000 in bonding proceeds so Maynard could reconstruct sewer lines, increase the height of a berm, and make other improvements that will prevent or alleviate flood damage.

"A berm has been in place in Maynard since the 1950's, but it is no longer able to effectively prevent flooding," Miller said. "By increasing the berm's height, the City will finally be protected from massive water runoff."

Miller said the City of Maynard would also contribute the local share needed to make this improvement.

Miller's bill was recently debated in the Minnesota House Capital Investment Committee, and will soon be heard in the House Environment and Natural Resources Finance Committee.
