REP. MILLER TO AUTHOR BILL FOR MONTEVIDEO VETERANS HOME

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

ST. PAUL – State Representative Tim Miller (R-Prinsburg) is authoring legislation that would help bring a Veterans Home to Montevideo.

“Thanks to the hard work and dedication of many in Chippewa County, the majority of local funding for a potential veterans home in Montevideo veterans home proposal has already been secured,” Miller said. “The bill I’m carrying would complete the needed state match.”

Miller said discussions have been taking place for years about bringing a veterans home to Montevideo. Miller said pre-design work for the proposal has already been finished. Federal dollars would make up two-thirds of the funding for any veterans home, while the remaining third would come from state sources.

In Montevideo’s case, the City and Chippewa County have pledged all but $6 million of the state contribution, and Miller’s bill would seek $6 million in bonding proceeds to finish the deal.

“Minnesota has a great need for assisted living care for our veterans,” Miller said. “Not only would a facility in Montevideo serve veterans from western Minnesota, but it would also bring new job opportunities for our residents.”
