Our Military Families

In March of 2021, my son Josh was deployed overseas to Kuwait as a member of our National Guard. When Josh shipped out nearly a year ago, he had to say goodbye to his son, Oliver. While we knew Josh had important work to do in service to our country, a yearlong separation is never easy for father or son.

Last week, my family was overjoyed to welcome Josh home; and Oliver was so excited to see his dad again.

Our military is not a nameless group of faraway individuals. The brave men and women who serve are fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters. These soldiers often spend months away from their families. This separation is never easy, but so many willing make this sacrifice in service to their country. We owe a great debt to the individuals who serve, but we also owe a debt to those who are separated from their loved ones for our nation’s sake.

As a father, I am grateful to God that my son has safely returned home. As a grandfather, I am so happy that Oliver and his dad are reunited!

New Pro-Life Legislation

The 2022 session of the Minnesota Legislature is underway. Committees are meeting again, and constituent groups have been reaching out to talk about the issues that are most important to them. If there are topics that you want to discuss, please reach out. I am always eager to talk to my constituents about how to make our state work better for you.

As many of you know, I am adamantly pro-life. Since I joined the Minnesota House in 2015, my most important work has been in support of efforts that protect unborn lives. This year is no different, and I am excited to announce that I have introduced four new pro-life bills.

  • HF 2898: Bans abortion when the unborn child’s heartbeat is detectable. Additionally, this bill allows private individuals to bring civil actions against those who are performing abortions or providing abortion services after the unborn child’s heartbeat is detectable.
  • HF 2761: Requires a pregnant woman to have an in-person appointment with a doctor before any abortion-inducing drug is prescribed, administered, or provided to her.
  • HF 2834: Requires healthcare providers to disclose whether medications, treatments, or medical devices were developed using aborted fetal tissue cells. Additionally, this bill allows patients to bring civil actions against providers who fail to accurately disclose this information.
  • HF 2848: Requires healthcare providers who administer or dispense abortion-inducing drugs to include a disclosure statement to help women who regret their decision to take the pills and want to continue their pregnancy.

Each bill takes an important step in protecting human life. We cannot simply stand by and do nothing. Abortion is a most grievous sin, and the abortion industry must be crushed. As unique individuals created in God’s image, every human being is important and has eternal worth. Our laws and our society must reflect this absolute truth. If not, we bring only shame and judgement upon ourselves.
