Thanksgiving in America

Wednesday, November 24, 2021

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! On this day, we are grateful for all the blessings we have been given.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, I remember the courageous Pilgrims who sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in search of freedom in 1620. To them, faithful worship of God was the most important pursuit. They risked their lives, and many gave their lives, that they might find religious liberty in the New World. Sustained by their faith, they established the Plymouth Colony and celebrated the first Thanksgiving in 1621 after a good harvest.

To me, Thanksgiving is inseparable from the Christian faith. The story of the Pilgrims is all about God’s faithfulness in the face of religious persecution and extreme adversity. The Pilgrims were not satisfied to let their beliefs be crushed by the English state, and God was with these brave souls as they sought freedom to worship Him.

For many of us, these days are darkened by the cultural and economic forces that seem to be working against us at every front. Nevertheless, we must take heart. In these times, we must cultivate faith like the Pilgrims. While hardship and suffering may be with us now, a time of thanksgiving will ultimately arrive.

Let us enjoy this Thanksgiving and give glory to God for His steadfast love.
