MSHSL ALLOWS SPECTATORS AT SPORTING EVENTS

Thursday, October 8, 2020

St. Paul – Today, the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) announced new guidelines regarding spectators at high school sporting events. Specifically, the MSHSL will now allow two spectators to attend a sporting event for every participant in that event. Rep. Tim Miller (Republican-Prinsburg) offered his reaction:

“These new guidelines mean parents will now be able to attend their children’s sporting events,” said Rep. Miller. “I am very pleased that the Minnesota State High School League reversed their previous policy of preventing parents from attending sports activities. Every parent knows how important it is to support their children, and I am glad the MSHSL is now recognizing that fact. The credit for this belongs to the families who stood up and advocated for their communities.”

The Minnesota Department of Education assisted the Minnesota State High School League in setting up the new guidelines regarding spectators.

“Additionally, I appreciate the timely manner in which the Department of Education acted on this issue,” said Rep. Miller. “I previously sent a letter to the MSHSL and the Department of Education asking them to allow parents to attend sports events. Both organizations wield immense authority on these issues. However, this is a perfect example of individuals knowing how to run their lives better than any bureaucracy.”

Rep. Miller set up a petition regarding this issue. That petition has received over 1,300 signatures. The link to the petition is here: https://www.newhousegop.com/gameon

Rep. Miller concluded, “Now more than ever, we must keep our institutions accountable to the people.”
