Wednesday, February 19, 2020

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Rep. Tim Miller (R- Prinsburg) yesterday met with dairy farmers from his district as a part of Minnesota Milk’s annual Dairy Day at the Capitol.

“Dairy is an important part of the farm economy in our region,” said Rep. Miller. “Livestock provides value add to the crops grown, they provide local jobs, and they stabilize the land values. We need to continue to support all of our dairies' interests regardless of their size.”

Data from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture states that 315 Minnesota dairy farms ceased production between January 1, 2019 and January 1, 2020. The USDA reports that nearly 20,000 dairy farms have stopped operations in the past decade (see photo, left to right: Tom Walsh- Louriston Dairy, Rep. Tim Miller).
