Legislative update

Tuesday, January 5, 2021

Dear Neighbor,

The members of the 92nd Minnesota Legislature were sworn into office today. I am honored to be starting my fourth term representing the citizens of Aitkin and Crow Wing County as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives.

As a COVID-19 precaution, our swearing-in ceremony and floor sessions are being conducted with most House members participating remotely from their legislative offices instead in the capital house chamber as is tradition.

My committee assignments include the Agriculture Finance and Policy, and Environment and Natural Resources Finance & Policy committees. I anticipate additional appointments in the coming weeks as we fill out a variety of additional committees, commissions and boards.

Like many of you, I am glad to put 2020 into the rear-view mirror and look forward to working on behalf of the people in District 10B as this new year begins. Front and center will be moving the governor toward working more cooperatively with the Legislature to bring an end to the peacetime emergency that we have been laboring under for the better part of a year.

To the many constituents that have sent emails directly to the governor over the past several weeks, thank you for helping me make it clear to him that a one-size-fits-all approach (and the now over 100 emergency orders he has issued) is not working for many of us in rural Minnesota. Keep up that effort, and here is a contact form to reach out to the governor and provide your input.

In addition to working through the current pandemic, the major task this first year of the 92nd Legislature includes adopting the next two-year state budget. That budget must be in place no later than July 1, 2021 in order to continue state operations. The most recent budget forecast indicates about a $1.3 billion shortfall.

As we move forward the governor will be providing his agencies’ budget requests to the Legislature. That will be followed by receipt the February 2021 forecast, which will provide the most current data available as we finalize the state’s next biennium budget package.

During this session I expect to be in St. Paul Monday-Thursday and in the district on Fridays. The easiest way to reach me is via email: rep.dale.lueck@house.mn.

Please be safe as we enjoy this week of warm January weather.

Sincerely,

Dale
