Line 3 telephone town halls start Thursday

Wednesday, April 1, 2020

AITKIN – State Rep. Dale Lueck, R-Aitkin, said he encourages area residents to participate in three statewide telephone town hall meetings regarding the Enbridge Line 3 replacement project.

Lueck indicated he will express his support for the project both in writing and via the telephone town hall process.

“We must continue to press to get this project moving in the interest of protecting our environment and ensuring a long-term stable energy supply,” Lueck said. “This is a 60-year old pipeline that needs to be replaced. We continue to make progress is shifting to alternative energy sources, however our rural economy will continue to depend on a significant amount of fossil fuel-based energy sources. Failing to replace this aging pipeline does is not protect our environment, rather it unnecessarily puts it at risk.”

During the meetings, the public can share a two-minute comments and/or listen to other public comments regarding the project’s draft permits and 401 certification. The comments will be included in the official public record.

The telephone town halls meetings are scheduled on the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, April 2 (2 – 3:30 p.m.)
  • Tuesday, April 7 (6:30 – 8 p.m.)
  • Thursday, April 9 (10 – 11:30 a.m.)

To participate, call (855) 731-4613 any time during the scheduled town hall times. The call is toll-free.

In addition, the Line 3 public comment period has been extended one week, to Friday, April 10. Beyond the telephone town hall meetings, the public can also submit comments on the MPCA’s website, https://www.pca.state.mn.us/.
