ST. PAUL – House Mining and Outdoor Recreation Policy Committee Vice Chairman Rep. Dale Lueck, R-Aitkin, issued the following statement following the Minnesota House passing legislation to extend unemployment insurance benefits by 26 weeks and also reform the unemployment insurance trust fund on Thursday. The bills now go to Gov. Mark Dayton for enactment, which he has said he will provide.
"I'm pleased we finally came to resolution on the 26-week extension for out-of-work Iron Range workers and also passed reform with our overfunded unemployment insurance trust fund," Lueck said. "This took longer to pass than it should have, but it required some time to reach a compromise with our friends from the Twin Cities metro area that didn't want to express support for the mining industry."
