Statement from Rep. Dale Lueck on budget forecast

Thursday, December 3, 2015

ST. PAUL –Rep. Dale Lueck, R-Aitkin, issued the following statement regarding the release of the state's new economic forecast on Thursday, which calls for a $1.87 billion surplus in fiscal years 2016-17.

"This further illustrates the fact Minnesotans are being overtaxed," Lueck said. "One of our top focuses in the 2016 session should be to reduce that load on Minnesota families and businesses. For example, I will continue working to pass my bill that stops the state's practice of taxing seniors' Social Security benefits. That was one of a number of tax reductions the House proposed earlier this year, only to have them blocked by the Senate and the Gov. Mark Dayton. We also need to take another look at directing sales tax revenue already being collected on the purchase of auto parts toward roads and bridges."
