One-Year Mark

Monday, March 14, 2022

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Last week was the one-year mark I chief authored articles of impeachment against MN Second District Court Assistant Chief Judge Sara Grewing on March 11, 2021 (linked here) for violating the plain language of the United States Constitution and Minnesota election law for colluding with MN Secretary of State Steve Simon and others to provide the impression of legality to the consent decree issued in LaRose v. Simon. One month later on April 17, 2021 I chief authored articles of impeachment against MN Secretary of State Steve Simon (linked here) for his co-conspiracy. The actions of Judge Grewing and Secretary Simon in 2020 disenfranchised the voters of every legally cast vote in Minnesota and violated equal protection rights guaranteed under the laws of Minnesota as well as Article I, Section 2, of the United States Constitution.

Despite a year having passed since I first introduced my articles of impeachment and despite the House Democrat majority burying my articles in committee, I’m committed to election integrity and accountability. As one on the leading edge fighting for voting integrity, I’ve not only traveled our community, but I’ve crisscrossed Minnesota over the past year+ speaking at many events highlighting the critical need for election reform in Minnesota. I will never stop fighting for truth!

"As a leader in the MN Legislature fighting to protect parental authority against CRT and CSE, it was a true honor being invited as guest speaker Wednesday evening last week to the 'Moms for Liberty' meeting in Buffalo," said State Rep. Eric Lucero. “We had a great Q & A conversation how parents across our community can continue growing influence and fight for our children and truth at school boards and the legislature.”

PARENTS’ BILL OF RIGHTS

Republicans stand with parents and children in favor of choice in education as well as for transparency and accountability against those who seek to abuse the K-12 education system to undermine truth and family values. Republicans in the MN Senate recently introduced a legislative package of five bills seeking to empower parents and children which includes legislation seeking to:

  • Allow parents to review curriculum.
  • Reinforce the fundamental right of parents to direct their children’s education.
  • Increase transparency by making the class syllabus accessible to parents.
  • Establish education savings accounts to help parents pay for tutoring, tuition, and other support services.
  • Prevent school boards from requiring parents to publicly disclose their home address as a condition of speaking at a school board meetings therein subjecting parents to potential doxxing and other negative consequences for simply exercising their First Amendment right to Freedom of Speech.

I’m among those in House fighting for these same priorities because it is indeed time to put parents back in the driver’s seat of their children’s education! More about the Senate Republican education initiative can be found at the following link here.

"It was an honor visiting with young people Thursday last week during 'MCCL Student Day at the Capitol'," said State Rep. Eric Lucero. "I brought with me one of the signs I proudly hang in my Capitol office and my conversation with the energetic group focused on the undeniable fact life is the first unalienable right and the truth life begins in the womb!"

NO PATIENT LEFT ALONE

I’m a proud co-author of HF 4055, known as the No Patient Left Alone Act, introduced last week seeking to protect our right to visit and support loved ones in a medical or caregiving setting. It was very frustrating to repeatedly hear of the visitor bans the last two years, those in care being isolated from family members, and some prohibited from saying their last goodbye. HF 4055 will help ensure healthcare in Minnesota remains humane.

"It was a privilege visiting with a group of entrepreneurs and business leaders from our local community Friday last week at the Capitol. The group asked many questions and we had a great conversation," said State Rep. Eric Lucero. "Job creators in Minnesota continue to be crushed with high taxes and burdensome over-regulation negatively impacting their ability to create even more good jobs for those living in our area. I'm committed to continue fighting to make Minnesota a friendly place to start and grow a business so entrepreneurs and risk takers can pursue their dreams!"

DEMOCRAT INACTION TO RESULT IN TAX INCREASE ON JOB CREATORS

Midnight tonight marks the moment job creators in our state will be socked with a massive tax increase as a result of inaction by House Democrats.

With a $9.3 billion surplus, Democrats are forcing a massive tax increase on job creators that will ultimately result in higher costs for all of us at the same time hard working Minnesotans are being inflicted with historic inflationary price increases under Biden-Walz.

Despite the fact the bipartisan bill to repay the unemployment insurance trust fund is supported by Gov. Walz, House Republicans, Senate Republicans, and most Senate Democrats, the bill has nevertheless been taken hostage by House Democrats. The bill passed the Senate weeks ago on a bipartisan, veto-proof vote but has been blocked by House Democrats.

The UI trust fund repayment bill is bipartisan and should have passed the MN House weeks ago — it's time to repay the unemployment insurance trust fund, and make sure we aren't hurting businesses who are already struggling with inflation and supply chain challenges in the Biden/Walz economy.

SPORTS GAMBLING

Last week a bill to expand sports gambling in Minnesota was heard in both the Commerce Committee and the Public Safety Committee. If passed, the legislation would result in the most significate change to Minnesota’s gambling laws in about 40 years. Provisions in the bill would permit sports gambling at existing tribal casinos and also via mobile apps controlled by third parties licensed by the tribal entities.

Testifiers expressed concern about mobile gambling apps because studies have shown sports and online gambling are correlated with gambling addiction and other problems among young adults aged 18-20. Ryan Hamilton with the Minnesota Catholic Conference testified, “They are especially addictive to young gamblers…This bill effectively puts a bookie in every living room, dorm room, and in the pocket of every high school senior.”

I voted NO in committee.

STATE OFFICE BUILDING OPENS

Good news! Beginning Monday, March 21, the State Office Building at the Capitol will once again be open to the public 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

By way of background, the House Democrat majority controls the State Office Building (the office building for House Members) while the Senate Republican majority controls the Senate Office Building (the office building for Senate Members). While Senate Republicans ensured the Senate Office Building has been open and accessible to the public, the House Democrat majority kept the public needlessly locked out of the State Office Building for the last two years.

Visitors to the State Office Building will be required to schedule appointments in advance. Please call my legislative office at (651) 296-1534 if you would like to schedule a visit to meet me in my office. Meeting with constituents is the best part of my role serving our community and I look forward to seeing you!
