Legislative update from Rep. Eric Lucero

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The 2022 legislative session began yesterday and there are many important decisions that must be made over the course of the next approximately four months. Returning law and order and supporting our professional law enforcement officers, deep tax cuts and returning the $7.7 surplus to the hardworking Minnesotans who originally paid the tax overcollection, protecting parental authority and the minds of children against the perversion of Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE) and poison of Critical Race Theory (CRT) from being taught in the K-12 classroom, working to restore voter confidence and election integrity by stopping MN Secretary of State Steve Simon and others from repeating their blatant violations of Minnesota election law again in the coming election, continuing the fight for equity in education funding and choice in education, and more are just a few of the priority items I will be fighting for.

Now that the 2022 legislative session has gaveled back in, I will resume my weekly email updates from the Capitol.

MEDICAL FREEDOM

As one of the leaders fighting for medical freedom and truth against the tyranny of vaccine mandates and vaccine passports, I introduced three new bills Monday, HF2691, HF2694, and HF 2801. Green = GO !! Rep. Lucero and legislative colleagues in Rogers January attending the pro roads and bridges transportation I-94 West Corridor Coalition Legislative Preview Breakfast. "Sen. Kiffmeyer and I successfully secured funding for the Corridors of Commerce program several years ago which in turn was used to fund several of the recently completed improvement and expansion projects on I-94," said State Rep. Eric Lucero. "Three lanes on I-94 in both directions between Albertville and St. Michael, Hwy 241 bridge reconstruction, and fourth-lane additions on I-94 between Hwy 101 in Rogers and Hwy 610 in Maple Grove are among the improvements that will allow for continued economic growth and reduce congestion for tens of thousands of hardworking people in and around our great community. Among our continued efforts include funding lane additions between Albertville and Monticello as well as additional ramps on Hwy 610."

SOUTHWEST LIGHT RAIL = COLOSSAL FAILURE

It was recently reported Southwest light rail construction costs were revised upwards yet again by hundreds of millions of dollars and the completion date pushed out yet again by multiple years. I released the following statement upon the new revelation. "With long histories of over-promising, under-delivering, and completely squandering taxpayer dollars again and again and again, the Metropolitan Council and Hennepin County are among the most worthless and corrupt entities in the entire state," said State Rep. Eric Lucero. "Southwest light rail was originally pitched as a ~$1 billion project, but the scoundrels at Met Council and Hennepin County have ballooned the cost of their rat-hole boondoggle to close to $3 billion and will no doubt seek Democrats at the MN Legislature to steal from the $7.7+ billion budget surplus to bail them out of their chronic buffoonery."

I support the bipartisan call demanding and investigative audit of the financial handling of Southwest LRT.

ACCESS AND AVAILABILITY

It is a true honor and privilege to be the elected voice of our great community in the MN House. One of the fundamental bedrocks of our Republic is the right to petition the government for redress of grievances. Contrary to this Constitutional right, Democrat House leadership are once again denying the public’s access to the House Floor and House Members in our offices. I WILL NOT PERMIT DEMOCRATS TO SILENCE YOUR VOICE. The best part of this role is meeting with constituents and gaining your perspective and I will make myself available to meet and hear your feedback.

PRECINCT CAUCUS

Precinct caucuses will take place tonight (Tuesday, February 1st) and I highly encourage citizens to attend their local events.

Caucuses are an important part of our political process. These meetings provide Minnesotans with the opportunity to decide what policies are important in national, state, and local government, along with electing local leaders.

The Minnesota Secretary of State website has a statewide Caucus Finder page to help citizens find their meeting locations. The more people we have involved in this process, the better and I hope you can attend. Feel free to bring friends and family as well.
