Spring Ahead

Friday, March 8, 2019

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

With Daylight Savings 2019 beginning this weekend, don’t forget to set your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday evening!

Rep. Lucero was among the six "2018 Outstanding Legislator Award" recipients named this week by the Legislative Evaluation Assembly (LEA)!

MNLARS

MNLARS is the government developed computer system launched July 2017 by the MN Department of Vehicle Services to process vehicle tabs, plates, drivers licenses, etc. A decade in development and over $100 million taxpayer dollars later, the rollout was a COMPLETE DISASTER as determined by the non-partisan Legislative Auditor’s report which stated:

The system did not adequately meet the needs of Minnesota residents and key stakeholders, despite a decade of work and significant state expenditures … Leaders of these agencies and the project did not provide the oversight and direction necessary to ensure, in the end, that the system would meet user needs.

The Legislature passed a bill Gov. Walz signed into law this week spending another $13 million on MNLARS. This is on top of the approximate $110 million already spent on MNLARS and in addition to the $100 million more Gov. Walz is seeking to spend! Combining money already spent with additional proposed money would bring the approximate total to $225 million!!

MNLARS is a proven money pit with many broken promises and is the reason I voted NO to dumping even one more penny into MNLARS. It’s time to stop reinventing the wheel and instead use systems already available which other states have used at a MUCH CHEAPER price!

100% Renewable Proposal

Monday this week, Gov. Walz announced his plan to require 100% renewable energy by the year 2050. I'm among the many Republicans who encourage renewable energy when feasible but not by demanding crazy mandates. Gov. Walz's proposal would cause energy bills to skyrocket and would threaten the reliability of our energy grid by forcing reliable and cost-effective power plants to shut down. The recent polar vortex demonstrates how critical a reliable energy grid is to both Minnesota residents and businesses.

Student Ben from Blaine shoots trap and skeet in the MN high school league and did a great job testifying before the House Judiciary Committee this week in favor of preserving our 2nd Amendment rights for the next generation.

GUN CONTROL

HF 8 and HF 9 are the two Democrat bills seeking to impose more gun control on law abiding citizens! I heard the terrible bills last week in the Public Safety Committee and again this week in the Judiciary Committee. Despite pointing out the serious flaws in both bills, the bills passed because Democrat extremists bent on imposing more gun control have the majority.

During the public comment period, a passionate member of the public gave excellent testimony which can be viewed here
