It Begins

Friday, January 11, 2019

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The 2019/20 legislature gaveled into session Tuesday this week beginning with a swearing-in ceremony as members took the oath of office. As I begin my third term, I’m truly humbled to continue serving the great people of Albertville, Hanover, Otsego, Saint Michael, and the Wright County portion of Dayton!

While we were just sworn-in this week, I’ve been hard at work preparing legislation in the weeks leading up to the beginning of session. I have multiple bills already drafted on a variety of issues important to our community, including equity in education funding, tax cuts, roads and bridges transportation, pro-Second Amendment, pro-life, student data privacy, and more.

I’m honored to be appointed to serve on three committees this term: Higher Education, Judiciary Finance & Civil Law, and Public Safety & Criminal Justice Reform. I look forward to continuing to use my background and experience to represent the values and priorities of our great community!

PRO SECOND AMENDMENT

As expected, those who seek to erode our constitutionally protected Second Amendment rights wasted no time introducing legislation this week to do just that. In fact, those who oppose gun rights were at the Capitol en masse on Tuesday, rallying to take guns away even before the session gaveled in. I fully expect anti-gun groups will be at the Capitol nearly every day making their presence known. For this reason, those of us who stand for truth and the Constitution must also make our voices heard at the Capitol. As one who proudly supports our Constitution, and as a member of the Public Safety Division where these bills are expected to be heard, you can continue to count on me to fight for the gun rights of all law-abiding citizens.

With Democrats now in the House majority, one of their first actions this week was to restructure the committee process. The restructure move sets the stage for Democrats to cram their metro-centric, radical-socialist agenda through the legislative process with very little notice to hardworking Minnesotans. Asked on the House Floor three separate times, the Democrat Majority Leader refused to commit to ensuring citizens would be guaranteed at least a 24-hour notice prior to bill hearings. I cannot overstate enough, those of us who cherish liberty must remain eternally vigilant this session.
