RELEASE: I-94 Expansion Project Awarded Corridor of Commerce Funds

Tuesday, May 1, 2018

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced today up to $62 million has been awarded to expand Highway 94 between St. Michael and Albertville. The road project will expand I-94 to three lanes in each direction between Highway 241 and County Road 19. State Rep. Eric Lucero R-Dayton and State Sen. Mary Kiffmeyer R-Big Lake were the chief authors of the Corridors of Commerce funding provision included in the 2017 Transportation Bill last year.

"Expanding I-94 between St. Michael and Albertville is a giant victory because roads and bridges transportation funding is among the highest priorities of our great community." Rep. Lucero said. "I’m proud to have chief authored Corridors of Commerce funding and I’m even more proud of the privilege of working with great partners such as members of the I-94 Corridor Coalition that made today’s funding victory announcement a reality. Expanding I-94 to three lanes in each direction and interchange improvements at Highway 241 and at county roads 37 and 19 will increase capacity as well as allow for continued economic growth of our area."

MnDOT awarded a total of $469 million to four projects as part of the Corridors of Commerce program. The projects, intended to improve the state transportation system in ways that specifically support Minnesota’s economy, will begin during the next four years.
