Two Pro-Life Bills

Friday, April 28, 2017

Dear Neighbor,

There are approximately three weeks remaining until the end of the legislative session and the hard work continues.

PRO-LIFE

Two, strong, pro-life bills passed off the House Floor this week and I was proud to vote in favor of both!

House File 809 seeks to prohibit taxpayer funding of abortions.  Taxpayer funded abortions currently account for more than 40% of all abortions performed in Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. Because abortion is the taking of innocent human life, it’s clear zero tax dollars should be used in-whole or in-part.

House File 812 seeks to require facilities performing ten or more abortions per month be licensed and inspected by the Minnesota Department of Health to ensure adherence to minimum sanitary and other standards.  Abortion facilities are not currently licensed by the State of Minnesota.  License and inspections are important commonsense requirements.

NEGOTIATIONS

The House and Senate versions of the budget bills that passed prior to Easter have been in conference committees all this week continuing to hammer out details of the multiple bills.  The conference committees are open to the public to ensure full transparency of all items being negotiated for Minnesota’s next two-year budget.  Unfortunately, Gov. Dayton has prevented his department commissioners from negotiating to ensure work gets completed in a timely fashion.  Nevertheless, Republicans in the House and Senate are working hard for ALL Minnesotans despite Gov. Dayton’s refusal to participate.  I expect some conference committee negotiations may continue into the weekend.
