CORRIDORS OF COMMERCE

I am chief author of HF 231 seeking to appropriate $400M toward the reinstatement of the Corridors of Commerce program to fund high importance corridor road transportation projects across our state, including the expansion of I-94 three lanes to Albertville.

My bill had a hearing Tuesday this week in front of the House Transportation Finance Committee upon which I sit.  I asked Saint Michael Mayor Kevin Kasel and Chair of the I-94 Corridor Coalition Steve Bot to join me for the bill hearing.  HF 231 passed the committee and was sent to its next stop in the House Ways and Means Committee.

PRO ISRAEL

BDS is an acronym standing for Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions. The BDS movement is a campaign first organized in 2005 and coordinated by the “Palestinian BDS National Committee” designed to wage financial attack against the nation Israel.

I'm a very strong supporter of Israel and I oppose the BDS financial attack perpetrated by Israel's enemies. HF 400, which I’m a proud co-author, seeks to prevent the State of Minnesota from entering into contracts with companies that discriminate against Israel, including through boycotts such as the BDS movement. HF 400 passed off the House Floor Thursday evening by a strong vote of 98-28.

Erum and I have been blessed with the opportunity to visit Israel twice. Our 2016 visit to Israel included visiting the Knesset and meeting with Knesset Member Oded Forer who is also a member of the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus.  Knesset Member Forer explained to us defeating BDS is a high priority in Israel because BDS is considered a threat to Israel’s national security.

PROTESTER BILL

We heard two bills in the Public Safety Committee Wednesday this week that seek to increase penalties on protesters who unlawfully obstruct freeways, transit, and airports. The two bills are HF 390 chief authored by Rep. Nick Zerwas and HF 1066 chief authored by Kathy Lohmer. Both bills successfully passed out of committee by a 10 to 6 roll call vote and were sent to the General Register.  I expect to see the bills on the full House Floor in the near future.
