Legislative Update (April 17, 2015)

Friday, April 17, 2015

Neighbors,

It is an honor to be your voice at the Capitol and to have the opportunity to work across party lines to draft and support legislation that provides a brighter future for our next generation.

I am proud of the Energy omnibus bill, which invests in cleaner, more affordable energy solutions for our state. Of note, while the bill keeps in place renewable energy mandates, it allows utility companies to use energy that is cheaper and cleaner than solar energy to satisfy current mandates. You no longer will be subsidizing other people’s solar energy.

In our Jobs omnibus bill, we continue to fund state programs that have demonstrated success and allow business owners in Minnesota to create jobs. The bill also eases regulations for municipalities, allowing them to do unique things in their community that create development. It is not government’s role to create jobs – it is government’s role to get out of the way of job producers. I look forward to sharing more details in the coming weeks.

As summer approaches and tourism season begins in Shakopee, I am reminded of how important our local attractions – ValleyFair, Cantebury Park, and Mystic Lake Casino – are to our district and to our state. I am proud of the role these businesses have taken to solve problems for employers and provide great opportunities for employees. If you have children or grandchildren who are looking for a summer job, contact my office and we will put you in touch with those that can provide you information on employment opportunities throughout Shakopee.

Please remember to take my Legislative Survey and stay in touch to share your thoughts on any issues before the House or in our community. You can reach me via phone at (651)296-9302 or via email at rep.bob.loonan@house.mn.

It is an honor to serve you!

Rep. Bob Loonan
