Legislative Update (March 23, 2015)

Monday, March 23, 2015

Neighbors,

We have spent many late nights at the Capitol as we passed our first committee deadline this past Friday. I am proud of the work I have done thus far in the House.

Prioritizing Transportation

On the campaign trail and here in St. Paul, I’ve had the opportunity to listen to many of your transportation concerns and have been working to address them. This morning, we introduced the Road and Bridge Act of 2015. This ten-year, $7 billion road and bridge plan addresses pervasive concerns about transportation infrastructure without raising taxes. Included in the act is my bill, HF710, which reallocates all the revenue from the Motor Vehicle Lease sales tax into two funds – the Greater Minnesota Bus Services Account and the Suburban County Highway Account. My bill delivers on $70 million of transportation infrastructure funding – including $12 million for our county alone. I am excited to have my bill included among so many great proposals to ease travel statewide.

Protecting Students

I’ve co-authored HF1895, a bi-partisan, common-sense measure to protect our students data in the digital age. As new technology revolutionizes the way schools collect and transmit data, it is wholly important that students and parents know that the private information provided to our districts remains safe from exploitation. The bill also provides minors with rights to remove unwanted information from online resources, ensuring the protection of privacy for our children.

Budget Coming Soon

This week, the House Republican Caucus will be introducing our budget. We are prioritizing the real concerns that Minnesota families face daily, from education needs for their children to improving roads and bridges to ensure safe and easy travel across our great state and providing quality long-term care for our elderly and vulnerable citizens. I look forward to speaking with you all about our priorities in the coming weeks.

I have been keeping a watchful eye on the many issues that you have contacted me about. Please continue to stay in touch to discuss any thoughts or concerns you may have. You can schedule a meeting to speak with me in my office in St. Paul by calling my Legislative Assistant at (651) 296-4375, or email me directly at rep.jon.koznick@house.mn.

Enjoy your week,

Rep. Jon Koznick
