Legislative Update (Feb. 6, 2015)

Friday, February 6, 2015

Neighbors,

Every week, I am reminded that we have so much to be thankful for in our community. From our freedom to pursue the American Dream, those that make great sacrifices to protect it, and our fantastic public servants in Lakeville and across the state, we have much to celebrate.

Honoring Our Veterans

We should never miss an opportunity to honor and thank our veterans for their great sacrifice. My colleagues and I have authored a bill to designate the Friday following Thanksgiving Day as Military Spouses and Families day, to honor the vital role that spouses and families play in supporting their brave family members, and their sacrifice in times of conflict. Thank you to our military families in Lakeville for their sacrifices so that the American Dream can be protected!

My Appointment to the CLAC

As a Columbian child adopted by an American family, it is truly an honor to have been appointed to the Chicano Latino Affairs Council this week by Speaker Daudt. The council serves as an advisory committee on the issues of health, education, economic development, housing, and immigration, and also serves as conduit of communication between Chicano and Latino organizations and the state government. I am looking forward to working with the Chicano and Latino community and community stakeholders to develop policies that help to preserve the American Dream for generations of Minnesotans to come.

Congratulations to Our Teachers

Congratulations to Lakeville teachers Christopher Clifford, Kari Dykhoff, and Cathy Knutson on their nomination for the 2015 Minnesota Teacher of the Year award. I’m proud to represent a district with so many dedicated instructors who work hard every day to ensure that our children have the necessary tools for success. Thank you teachers for all you do, and best of luck to our nominees!
