RELEASE: Rep. Koznick Sends Letter to Governor Walz Urging Deployment of National Guard to Restore Peace and Order

Friday, May 29, 2020

St. Paul, MN—State Representative Jon Koznick, R-Lakeville, sent a letter to Governor Walz yesterday urging deployment of the Minnesota National Guard to restore peace, order, and to protect lives and property following riots and looting in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

“We were all shocked by the lack of humanity in the disturbing video that revealed the inexcusable treatment of Mr. Floyd at the hands of police officers,” said Rep. Koznick. “Constituents from Lakeville reached out to me yesterday to share that their business and property were among those vandalized and looted on Wednesday night. There is a difference between rights to protest and riots in the street. A primary function of governments is to provide public safety—peace and order must be restored immediately to protect the lives and property of all Minnesotans, and to return the focus to the case of justice for Mr. Floyd. Join me in praying for the entire Twin Cities area. We cannot let the chaos continue another day or night.”

Governor Walz issued an Executive Order on Thursday afternoon, activating the Minnesota National Guard to provide safety and protection to the people of Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding communities.
