RELEASE: Rep. Koznick and Rep. Mack Statement on Child Care Unionization Vote

Tuesday, March 1, 2016

ST. PAUL, MN – On Tuesday, March 1, the results of the child care providers unionization election were tallied. By a vote of 1,014 against and 392 for, the unionization did not pass. Rep. Jon Koznick, R-Lakeville, was on hand for the vote tally and issued the following statement:

“Despite a severely flawed voting process, child care providers across the state have spoken with a resounding rejection of unionization,” said Koznick. “Despite stacking the deck for unionization, it’s clear Minnesota’s care providers have no interest in coerced organized labor. I’m proud to stand with determined small business owners who stood for freedom against unionizing.”

Rep. Tara Mack, R-Apple Valley, has also expressed significant doubts about the conduct and legality of the election and proposed unionization.

“This is a victory for working parents and their children who may have incurred high costs and reduced child care access if unionization passed,” said Mack. “By refusing Governor Dayton and legislative Democrats’ union agenda, families around the state can continue utilizing the best, most cost-efficient providers in their area.”
