RELEASE: Rep. Heintzeman: Highway 371/210 Safety Improvements Included in Corridors of Commerce Grant Funding

Wednesday, July 12, 2023

St. Paul, MN—State Representative Josh Heintzeman, R-Nisswa, issued the following statement today regarding news that safety improvements at the intersection of Highway 371 and Highway 210 in Baxter have been included in the latest round of grant funding through the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Corridors of Commerce program. Today’s announcement means that $58 million will be allocated to construct a grade separation at the intersection to address significant safety concerns impacting drivers.

“Today’s announcement is good news for folks who have struggled for years trying to get through these intersections as traffic continues to increase year after year. This improvement will make one of the busiest intersections in our area safer for all of us,” said Heintzeman. “This is an issue that I have been working on for years, and seeing it get across the finish line is a testament to the commitment and advocacy of hundreds of local residents and stakeholders that have poured time and energy into the project. Many thanks to them for their partnership over the years as we continue our efforts in making Crow Wing County a safer place for motorists.”

The Corridors of Commerce program was created by the Minnesota Legislature in 2013 with the goal of focusing transportation investments on state highway projects that directly and indirectly foster economic growth for the state of Minnesota. More information about the Corridors of Commerce program – including past awards and recent applicants – can be found on MnDOT’s website.
