RELEASE: Rep. Heintzeman Statement on State Budget Update

Tuesday, May 5, 2020

St. Paul, MN—State Representative Josh Heintzeman, R-Nisswa, issued the following statement regarding the budget update released Tuesday by Minnesota Management and Budget showing a $2.426 billion deficit, and a $3.6 billion overall drop in revenue.

“The news that Minnesota is facing a sizable budget deficit is not surprising as a dramatic reduction in tax revenues has long been expected due to unprecedented business closures,” said Rep. Heintzeman. “As we look to the future and evaluate ways to get our fiscal house back in order, the state must consider reductions in overall spending while still prioritizing essential services Minnesotans rely on. Many states around the country have already proposed billions in budget reductions as they adjust to this new economic reality. There will be difficult conversations in the weeks and months ahead, but one thing is clear—businesses and Minnesota families alone cannot bear the burden of this crisis, government must share the sacrifice.”
