Legislative Update (7-22-16)

Friday, July 22, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

Talks of a special session have heated up in recent days with the Governor, Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader meeting last week to discuss the possibility of one taking place sometime next month. While I am cautiously optimistic, I want to make sure folks understand that there is still a long ways to go before a special session would be called by the Governor.

Much of the discussion between Governor Dayton and legislative leaders is centered on the $800 million tax relief bill that was vetoed by Dayton earlier this summer and a bonding/transportation bill that stalled in the final moments of the legislative session.

It is my hope that if a special session is indeed called, we will pass a tax bill and bonding/transportation bill that are similar to the two bills the House passed during the regular session.

Finally, this week brings us to the 60-day mark from the end of the 2016 regular session. Campaign Finance Board rules prevent legislators from issuing email updates such as this from now until November.

Even though my email updates will be put on hold, I will continue working to represent citizens of District 24B and am able to communicate with constituents on an individual basis. Your questions, comments, and concerns are always welcome. Please contact me at (612) 296-8237 or via email at rep.brian.daniels@house.mn.

Have a wonderful summer,

Brian
