RELEASE: Rep. Considine announces he will not seek reelection to House in 2020

Wednesday, February 26, 2020

SAINT PAUL – State Rep. Jack Considine (DFL – Mankato) announced today that he will not seek reelection to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2020. Rep. Considine, a third-term lawmaker serving Mankato and Eagle Lake, thanked constituents for the honor to serve them at the State Capitol.

“Serving in the Legislature and advocating for the values we all share as Minnesotans has been an incredible honor, but it’s time to move on and enjoy everything else life has to offer,” Rep. Considine said. “I’m deeply grateful to the community members in the Mankato area who’ve afforded me the chance to do rewarding work supporting students, seniors, working families, people with disabilities, other vulnerable Minnesotans, and those looking for redemption and a second chance at success. These issues are more important than ever, and I plan to remain engaged and vocal about our need to deliver on them, but I won’t be doing it from a committee table or the House Floor. Instead, it will be someone else’s turn to serve, and I look forward to more time being a grandpa.”

In the House, Rep. Considine has passionately fought to ensure people with disabilities can live with dignity in their communities and has championed legislation to increase languishing wages for home care workers. He’s also worked to deliver strong funding for public education – both for E-12 classrooms and at higher education instructions like Minnesota State, investments in key public infrastructure, expanded health care access and affordability, economic growth opportunities in the Greater Mankato area, and criminal justice reforms. Last year, he took the helm as chair of the brand-new House Corrections Committee to improve safety and outcomes in Minnesota’s prisons, jails, and community supervision programs.

Prior to his election in 2014, Rep. Considine served 16 years on the Mankato City Council. Professionally, he’s worked as a behavior analyst at the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter and as a jail program coordinator and counselor for the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Department.

He encourages constituents to remain in touch with their viewpoints throughout the remainder of his term, which ends next January. His phone number at the Capitol is 651-296-3248 and email is rep.jack.considine@house.mn.
