RELEASE: Rep. Considine joins fellow lawmakers at the Capitol as 2020 legislative session begins

Tuesday, February 11, 2020

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Lawmakers returned to the State Capitol today for the start of the 2020 Minnesota legislative session. Rep. Jack Considine (DFL – Mankato) is excited for the work ahead to strengthen opportunities for families across the state.

“I’m glad to be back at the Capitol and remain deeply grateful to serve our community. There’s a lot of work we have in front of us to ensure everyone in our state has the opportunity for a bright, prosperous future,” Rep. Considine said. “This session, we have a particularly important responsibility to fight for the most vulnerable among us, including those who are aging or have a disability. I remain committed to ensuring they can all live with dignity.”

Rep. Considine will continue to prioritize efforts to increase funding for personal care attendants and other workers who provide services to people with disabilities and other vulnerable Minnesotans in home and community-based settings. As Big Pharma earns massive profits, prescription drug prices continue to rise. He supports “the Alec Smith Emergency Insulin Act.” The bill would help ensure Minnesotans facing an emergency — those most in danger of rationing their insulin due to the high cost of the drug — have access to an immediate refill at their pharmacy, and other solutions to address skyrocketing prescription drug costs.

This bill is one piece of the House DFL Majority’s 2020 Minnesota Values Plan, an agenda aimed at benefitting all Minnesotans through world-class education, access to affordable and accessible health care, safe and inclusive communities, and overall, the opportunity to succeed. The agenda includes expanded early care and learning for the youngest Minnesotans, paid family & medical leave and earned safe & sick time for all Minnesotans, common-sense gun violence prevention solutions including criminal background checks on all gun sales and extreme risk protection orders, and bold action such as a 100% clean energy standard to address climate change.

This session, lawmakers will consider a capital investment bonding bill to strengthen infrastructure across the state. Rep. Considine will strongly advocate for Mankato area priorities including the city of Mankato’s water quality mitigation project, replacement of Armstrong Hall at MSU, and the second phase of the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center’s renovation.

Rep. Considine encourages constituents to contact him with feedback on any issue. He can be reached by phone at 651-296-3248 or email at rep.jack.considine@house.mn.
