Legislative Update - December 22, 2016

Thursday, December 22, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish each of you a Merry Christmas. It is my hope that you will be able take time with your friends and family to celebrate and make memories lasting for years to come.

With the New Year approaching, it also means a new legislative session, which begins January 3. Earlier this week, I received my committee assignments for the 2017-2018 session, which include posts on the Health and Human Services Finance, Public Safety and Security Policy and Finance, and Capital Investment Committees. I’m extremely pleased at these appointments which will enable me to tackle issues representing some of the most fundamental roles of state government, including keeping Minnesotans safe, taking care of Minnesotans who face challenges in caring for themselves, and maintaining and improving our infrastructure.

Specifically, I’m looking forward to getting to work finishing overdue upgrades at the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter – which frankly, should have been included in a bonding bill last session, but gridlock got in the way of that passing, and providing a raise to employees who provide care to Minnesotans with disabilities or other special needs working in home or community-based settings.

I’d invite you to reach out to me by phone or email anytime with concerns or feedback, or if I can ever be of assistance to you. If you’re ever up in St. Paul, I’d also encourage you to swing by and say hello. The multiyear State Capitol restoration project is just about finished, and the breathtaking attention to detail in this work I believe warrants a visit on its own.

I thank you for the honor to serve in the state legislature, and again, Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Sincerely,

Jack Considine

State Representative
