Friday, April 24, 2015
ST. PAUL, MN—A provision to designate the Shell Rock River as a state waterway passed as a part of the Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Finance omnibus bill which was passed by the Minnesota House on a bipartisan 78-52 vote. First-term Representative Peggy Bennett, R-Albert Lea, was the chief author of the original bill which was ultimately included in the omnibus bill.

Senator Dan Sparks, DFL-Austin, is the chief author of a similar provision in the Senate.

"I'm excited that the Shell Rock River is one step closer to becoming a designated state water trail," Bennett said. "The Shell Rock River will soon join a list of some of Minnesota's most beautiful waterways, and help drive tourism and recreation in our community.
