Dear Neighbors,

It’s been two months since the end of the legislative session, and looking back, I’m proud of what we accomplished over the last two years. July 20 marks a 60-day, post-session rule that says that after today, we can’t send out updates over the next few months. Although I can’t reach out to you, I hope you’ll continue to contact my office with any ways I can help you or your family.

Farmer Assistance

I posted this on my Facebook, but I wanted to make sure folks in our area know about a Disaster Recovery Loan Program available to farmers who may be impacted by recent flooding. Governor Dayton declared a state of emergency for 36 counties – including Faribault, Freeborn, and Mower – which means farmers may be eligible for zero-percent loans to assist with flood-related clean-up, repair, and replacement costs that are not covered by insurance.

With the low commodity prices, farmers are already in a stressful spot this year, so the reducing crop yield and other damage from recent storms and flooding in our area is particularly devastating. I encourage our local farmers to take advantage of this loan program to help mitigate some of the loss. If anyone has questions about the program you can click here, or feel free to contact my office; I’d be happy to help in any way I can.

Fun Visit

What a beautiful day for Wind Down Wednesday in Albert Lea a couple days ago! There were lots of people there in the evening and I was so happy to run into one of my favorite former students, Karen Jerdee. Karen was in my kindergarten classroom my second year of teaching in 1982. I can still remember her beautiful smile (which she still has!) and her cute pigtail braids. I can also still remember some of the sign language she taught me. It was so nice to see Karen, and Colter thought so, too!
