Dear Neighbors,

Budget Signed Into Law

I’m thankful to be back in beautiful Albert Lea now that we concluded our legislative work for the year. My first visit when I got back into town was to go to Jake’s Pizza with some friends. I’ve been craving Jake’s Pizza!

It’s great seeing you around town, and listening to your thoughts on the bills we passed. We received more good news this week as Governor Dayton signed ALL of our budget bills into law. This includes $650 million in tax relief; a solid transportation bill that infuses billions of dollars of much-needed funding for roads and bridges throughout Minnesota without raising taxes or tab fees; a substantial increase (2% each year) for our K-12 schools, along with some good education reform; a bonding bill that focuses heavily on infrastructure; and more.

These bills involved a lot of hard work on all sides – Senate, House, and Governor – much give and take, and a lot of compromise. Minnesotans want us to work together, and that’s what we did – and that makes a big win for all of Minnesota. I’m proud of our accomplishments, and the lasting, positive impact these bills will have on folks in our area and around the state.

Memorial Day

Thank you to the Albert Lea American Legion Post 56 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Albert Lea Post 447 for hosting a beautiful Memorial Day program at Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea this weekend. Thank you, also, to Commander CL Tovar for inviting me to be the guest speaker for the program. It touched me very much to be able to honor those who gave their lives to protect our freedom. Of all the events I've spoken at, this is the kind I cherish most. What a beautiful time remembering and honoring those who sacrificed their all in defense of our country. Thank you!

Although we’re finished with the current session, it’s still important for you to reach out if you need something. I’m back in town much more now, which makes it easier for us to meet locally to discuss any question or issue I can help with. If you want to chat, please call or email my office; I’m more than happy to set up a time for us to meet!

Have a great week and weekend!
