News from Rep. Peggy Bennett 09-25-2015

Dear Friends,

What a busy and exciting week it's been! Last Saturday I adopted a Ragdoll kitten named Mingo. Mingo means "chief" in the Choctaw language, and is already making himself at home. He's already got Colter's stamp of approval!

Some updates from the last week:

Child Protection Task Force
On Tuesday, we held the latest meeting of the legislative child protection task force. We heard testimony from some county child protection people and discussed the progress of the new screening guidelines that are being developed – how social workers screen child abuse reports and how those guidelines influence the next steps in the system. With 87 counties, it’s important to get feedback so we can have some consistency. We also heard about the progress of hiring new child protection staff using funding passed during the last legislative session.

Colter made the trip to St. Paul with me Tuesday and enjoyed seeing some of his friends at the State Office Building too – he even got to practice the revolving doors again just to make sure he gets that down pat!

In the Community
Last Sunday I had the chance to attend "Autumn in the Village" at the Freeborn County Historical Society. As a lover of history, I so enjoyed this event. This museum is a real treasure for our area. It was a beautiful day to walk around and take a step back into time and take in all the activities, food, music, and other fun.

Monday evening I enjoyed the yearly soup and pie supper at Central Freeborn Lutheran in Albert Lea. What a great event—more than 700 people in attendance!

I had a great meeting with the Lakeview Lion's group on Tuesday in Albert Lea, a group made up of many retired teachers and school workers. Lots of familiar faces—great to see everyone!

Yesterday I stopped by the Throne Crest Senior Living Community in Albert Lea to see some of the remodeling that was done and visit with some of the residents. The renovations include a new assisted living area, memory care, and wellness center that all will help in improving care for our aging loved ones.

As always, if you have an group or event you'd like me to stop by, please email me any time at rep.peggy.bennett@house.mn or call my office at 651-296-8216. My door is always open, and I love visiting community events all over our district.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Peggy
