News from Dave (Jan. 22, 2016)

Friday, January 22, 2016

Dear Friends,

Earlier today, I attended the MCCL March for Life rally in front of the Capitol. Citizens from across the state congregated in St. Paul to show their support for the pro-life movement. A special thanks to those from District 17B who made the trip to St. Paul—you can count on me to continue supporting pro-life legislation at the Capitol.

In other news, the likelihood of a special session taking place before the start of the 2016 Legislative Session appears slim as legislative leaders and the Governor were unable to reach an agreement during a Thursday meeting.

With the start of the regular session fast approaching, I find it increasingly unlikely that a special session will be called. However, I stand ready to meet if needed. As always, I will keep you updated if additional details emerge.

I am excited to share news that the new commissioner of the Department of Human Services will be visiting Willmar early next month to tour care facilities and participate in a roundtable discussion with mental health and home care providers. As a strong supporter of increased mental health awareness and home care providers, I am looking forward to visiting with the commissioner and sharing the unique challenges facing rural Minnesota in providing these services.

Lastly, I met with the Governor’s office this week to discuss broadband. The meeting was productive and I am hopeful that we will be able to pass legislation this coming session that expands broadband access for rural Minnesota.

On the Calendar

WinterFest begins this weekend in Spicer! Festivities commence tomorrow morning with the annual Frozen 5K Run/Walk. For additional information regarding WinterFest activities, visit here.

I will once again be participating in this year’s Polar Plunge. Join myself and other legislators on January 30th at 1:00 pm, in Spicer, as we “take the plunge” into Green Lake’s icy waters—raising money for the Special Olympics.

Finally, I will be hosting a town hall meeting on February 27th. I strongly encourage you to attend and would love to hear from you before session begins in early March. Details are still being finalized and I will have additional information for you in the coming weeks.

Enjoy your weekend,

Dave
