Legislative Update from Rep. Jeff Backer

Friday, March 15, 2024

Dear Neighbors,

This week, in the Health Finance and Policy Committee, we heard a bill that seeks to address the EMS and ambulance crisis facing rural communities in Minnesota.

As a member of the EMS Task Force and a volunteer EMT, this is an issue I have been working on for years.

However, the bill proposal we heard in committee does not address the core problems facing these important services. Please take a moment to watch my comments in committee to learn more about my opposition by clicking here or the photo below.

On Wednesday, the Elections Committee heard a bill that would make Minnesota a full-time legislature and turn legislators into professional politicians.

We are proudly NOT professional politicians, we are a citizen-legislature and it needs to stay that way.

Bringing more Washington DC-style politics to Minnesota is a horrible idea, it’s not supported by Minnesotans, and is not something the legislature should be wasting time on this year. Click here or the photo below to watch a brief video on this topic.
