Rep. Backer Statement on the Start of 2024 Legislative Session

SAINT PAUL – State Representative Jeff Backer, R-Browns Valley, released the following statement on the first day of the 2024 legislative session:

“It is an honor to return to the legislature to continue my work fighting for the men, women, and families of west central Minnesota,” said Backer. “Last year, we saw the consequences of one-party-control in St. Paul as Democrats blew through a $17.5 billion budget surplus, raised taxes by $10 billion, and passed a variety of controversial policies that have divided Minnesota. Now, we’re already hearing about several new and divisive pieces of legislation that Democrats plan to push this year including a proposal to turn Minnesota into a sanctuary state and to legalize physician-assisted suicide. It’s clearer than ever that balance is needed in St. Paul. I will continue to hold the line on these radical policies and to uphold life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

Backer welcomes correspondence throughout the session and encourages residents to email rep.jeff.backer@house.mn.gov or call (651) 296-4929 to get in touch.
