Legislative Update from Rep. Jeff Backer

Friday, February 26, 2021

Dear Neighbors,

I wanted to send a quick email update to you letting you know that late this morning, Minnesota Management and Budget released an updated budget forecast.

Their forecast shows a projected $1.6 billion surplus for the 2022-2023 biennium.

This is a tremendous improvement from the multi-billion dollar deficit that was projected last year.

News of a projected surplus is thanks to the hard work and resilience of Minnesotans. This surplus belongs to you and I will push to make sure that tax increases being proposed by Governor Walz and Democrats do not become law.

Their tax increases would punish Minnesotans and businesses and slow our recovery.

It’s also time for Governor Walz’s harmful lockdowns to end.

As we move forward and negotiate a new two-year budget, I will work hard to make sure that government shares in the sacrifice that so many had to endure in 2020.

Have a great day,

Jeff
