Legislative Update from Rep. Jeff Backer

Thursday, May 16, 2019

Dear Friends,

It's been a busy week in St. Paul as Governor Walz, Senate Majority Leader Gazelka, and House Speaker Hortman have been meeting behind closed doors to work towards a compromise state budget deal that will fund Minnesota government for the next two years.

I am disappointed that with just days to go in this year's session, we still don't have an agreement on the state budget. Sadly, Governor Walz and House Democrats have continued to insist on raising taxes to the tune of more than $12 billion over the next four years. Click here or click on the photo below to hear more of my thoughts on budget negotiations.

It is my hope that I will have more information on budget negotiations in the coming days.

Finally, on a lighter note, one of the most rewarding parts of being a state representative is when I have a chance to help individuals and their families with issues they may be facing. Click here or on the photo below for a short video discussing a recent constituent story.

That's all for today, I will have additional information for you as it becomes available. In the meantime please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I can be reached on my office number at 651-296-4929 or my cell phone at 701-361-1909. You can also reach via email at rep.jeff.backer@house.mn, or via U.S. Mail at 203 State Office Building, St. Paul, MN 55155.

Have a good weekend,

Jeff
