Legislative Update from Rep. Jeff Backer

Friday, January 11, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

The 2019 legislative session officially began on Tuesday as I joined 133 other members of the House at a swearing-in ceremony where we took the oath of office.

The first day of session is always filled with pomp and circumstance as friends and family travel to St. Paul to be with members as they are sworn in. Tuesday was the third time that I’ve taken the oath of office as your representative and it remains a humbling experience.

Most of my work during the first months of session will take place in committee. For the 2019-2020 legislative biennium, I have been assigned to serve on the Jobs and Economic Development Finance Division, Environment and Natural Resources Finance Division, and the Health and Human Services Policy Committee.

This biennium’s committee assignments give me the opportunity to work closely on the issues that matter most to our area—things like clean water, good paying jobs, and affordable health care options.

Things will start to pick up next week with meetings and floor sessions. As always, I will keep you updated on everything that’s going on in St. Paul.

In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any legislative questions, concerns, or ideas. I can be reached on my office number at 651-296-4929 or my cell phone at 701-361-1909. You can also reach via email at rep.jeff.backer@house.mn, or via U.S. Mail at 203 State Office Building, St. Paul, MN 55155.

That’s all for this week, I hope you have a great weekend,

Jeff
