Legislative Update (January 22, 2016)

Friday, January 22, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

It has been a busy start to the year as I have spent a great deal of time meeting with constituents and other local groups discussing their priorities for the coming legislative session. Ideas for how we can continue to build on last session’s successes and ensure that Minnesota continues to be a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

On Tuesday, I was named to serve on a select committee that will partner with providers and parents to facilitate solutions for more affordable child care choices for Minnesota families across the state.

Minnesota has a number of quality child care providers that are committed to the families they serve. However, many families in rural Minnesota have a difficult time finding access to providers as data from the Minnesota Department of Health shows that we have lost over 3,000 providers in the last decade.

Beginning in February, this select committee will tour Greater Minnesota to hear from parents and providers to gain a greater understanding of the issue and discuss remedies.

I am honored to have been asked to serve on this committee and am looking forward to begin this important work.

As always, if you have any questions regarding this issue or anything legislative matter, do not hesitate to contact my office. I can be reached via email at rep.jeff.backer@house.mn and by phone at 651-296-4929.

Sincerely,

Jeff
