Capitol Update from Rep. Tama Theis

Friday, May 24, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

Here’s the latest news from the Capitol:

We ended the regular Legislative session on Monday at midnight. Due to budget negotiations taking far longer than usual, we only sent one budget bill to the governor – Higher Ed was agreed to, but none of the other bills were finished with enough time for us to pass them. Negotiations continued throughout this week, and now all budget bills have been agreed to by leadership. If you’d like to read the bills, they are all available here. Yesterday evening, the Governor called for a special session to begin today at 10am. We will likely be at the Capitol from now until we get our work done and pass a state budget.

I hope to be able to attend several Memorial Day services this weekend. I plan to attend the Camp Ripley Memorial Day program on Sunday and the VA Memorial Day program on Monday. I also want to take a moment here and honor those who gave their lives to protect and defend our country. We are forever indebted to those who sacrificed everything so we could be free.

It’s an honor to be your voice at the Capitol. Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Tama
