Capitol Update from Rep. Tama Theis

Monday, April 15, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

Here’s the latest news from the Capitol:

This week the Legislature is on break for Easter, so there will be no official House business. I’m looking forward to spending time with family and having conversations with constituents back home!

On the Tuesday after the legislative break, we will take up the K-12 education omnibus bill and the Jobs, Energy, and Greater Minnesota omnibus bill. I’m incredibly disappointed that the education bill does not fund the Sanneh Foundation or the Rock and Read program which are so important to our area, and also does not fund charter schools as much as it should. I’m not sure how I’ll vote on the bill, but I may have some amendments to try to improve it.

The jobs omnibus bill includes my bill, HF 2281, which includes business management in continuing education requirements for contractors. While I’m glad that my bill was included, there are a lot of very problematic provisions in that bill.

Last week, the Minnesota Street Rod Association brought some cars to the Capitol!

I want to wish you all a happy Easter! I look forward to spending time with loved ones, and I hope you are able to enjoy time with friends and family too.

It’s an honor to be your voice at the Capitol. Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Tama
