CLOQUET, Minn. – Today, the Minnesota House Capital Investment Committee started a three-day tour of northeastern Minnesota visiting sites with proposed investments in regional economies. The tour included a visit to the Cloquet Area Fire District where Rep. Mike Sundin (DFL – Esko) welcomed the lawmakers as they learned about the proposal for a new fire hall to serve Cloquet and surrounding communities.
“Residents in and around Cloquet expect and deserve quality public safety services, but as demand on the fire district has increased in recent years, the current fire hall is terribly out of date,” Rep. Sundin said. “We’ve put together a good state and local partnership which will not only protect homes and businesses, but will keep our dedicated firefighters safe and allow them to do their jobs more effectively. Interest rates are low and our state bond rating is high, so it’s the perfect time to make this and other critical investments in public infrastructure.”
Additionally, legislators were scheduled to receive a tour of Pine Technical College and the Campground, Boat Launch, and Recreation Facility in Brookston. The tour will continue through Thursday including site visits in Duluth, the Iron Range, and the North Shore.
