RELEASE: Rep. Lien: House GOP tax bill oversized; lacks focus

Thursday, March 30, 2017

ST. PAUL – Today, the Minnesota House passed the Republican Majority’s package of tax legislation on a vote of 80-52.

Rep. Ben Lien (DFL – Moorhead) issued the following statement:

"The House Tax Bill set the overall budget priorities for the GOP this session. By putting $1.3 billion into tax cuts, the rest of the budget doesn't allow for K-12 funding to keep up with inflation, tuition freezes at all campuses across Minnesota or wage increases for long-term care workers.

"I agree with some items in the Tax Bill, like agricultural property and Social Security tax cuts.  However, the overall size of the bill is too big and threatens Minnesota's financial stability in the future. We need to make more targeted investments to grow our economy for all Minnesotans."
