RELEASE: Rep. Lien elected Assistant House Minority Leader

Thursday, December 15, 2016

SAINT PAUL, MINN. – State Rep. Ben Lien (DFL – Moorhead) has been elected by his colleagues to be Assistant House DFL Leader for the coming legislative session. In the role, Rep. Lien will work closely with incoming House DFL Leader Rep. Melissa Hortman (DFL – Brooklyn Park) to advocate for DFL legislative priorities and help manage external and internal caucus business.

"It's an honor to be chosen by my DFL colleagues to take on a leadership role over the next biennium. I look forward to continue working with DFL and GOP members for the people of Minnesota,” Rep. Lien said. "We have serious issues and challenges to address next session. Workforce development, agricultural property taxes and health care are all matters I'll press as a caucus leader."

The leadership election occurred during the House DFL Caucus’s post-election retreat on Saturday. Serving as one of six assistant leaders from all across the state, Rep. Lien will focus particularly on the needs of Greater Minnesota.

The 2017-2018 legislative session convenes January 3.

Rep. Lien represents the communities of Moorhead and Oakport Township in the Minnesota House. He can be reached at 651-296-5515 or at rep.ben.lien@house.mn.
