Tax Bill Statement

Wednesday, April 29, 2015
SAINT PAUL, MN – Today, the House passed the omnibus tax proposal. The bill provides $2 billion in tax giveaways—largely for corporations—laying the framework for the Republican budget which drastically underfunds education, cuts health &  human services, and moves our state backwards despite a nearly $2 billion projected budget surplus.

Rep. Ben Lien (DFL—Moorhead) released the following statement:

"Last session the Legislature passed and Governor Dayton signed into law tax cuts to the tune of $407 million. This, along with a strong economy, is leading to a tax burden decrease for 90% of Minnesotans."

"We do not need to break the bank in tax cuts in order to build a better Minnesota. The $2.2 billion in tax cuts proposed by the House GOP should be instead be invested in K-12 education, direct property tax relief, higher education, long-term and senior care, and the list goes on. These would be targeted investments that would help Minnesota and our economy grow into the future."
