Legislative Update

Friday, February 11, 2022

Friends,

We are in the height of winter sports.  Now is a great time to support your local schools as they compete in sections and try to earn a spot to the state tournaments.  My best wishes to all the student athletes!

Session continues to go on and with it, several bills are coming out that I wanted you to be aware of.

This week, I am co-authoring several pieces of legislation. One of note, HF3206, Consumer Choice of Fuel Act. In this legislation, the state cannot restrict a consumer choice in purchasing motorized equipment based on that equipment’s fuel source. We’ve had a lot of problems with the Governor’s Clean Car legislation that is making it harder on our consumers and vehicle dealers. This is one effort to combat that. This will extend to snowmobiles as well.  This legislation is in tandem with HF3038. HF3038 makes the Pollution Control Agency adopt standards of air quality, as opposed to limiting the emission of air contaminants from vehicles. I am thankful to Minority Leader Daudt for working to make these laws make sense for Minnesotans.

I am proudly co-authoring HF3124, as well. This legislation will create a short-call substitute teaching license for at least one school year. This will help with the staffing issues Minnesota schools are facing and alleviate some of the pressure off our teachers.

More legislation is sure to come, and I am glad to be helping make all of our lives better in Minnesota.
