News From Representative Kresha 3-2-2018

Friday, March 2, 2018

Dear Friends,

I hope you’re enjoying the warmer weather we’ve been having in the area lately.  It’s always good to see warmer temperatures and a few sunny skies this time of year.

Best of luck to area wrestlers as they compete in the state wrestling tournament this weekend.  In addition to the LPGE/BEV team, there are individual wrestlers from Royalton, Little Falls, and Pierz, all wrestling at state.  It’s exciting to see young people having success in athletics and representing our community well.

Opioid Day
Yesterday, the legislature hosted the Second Annual Opioid Awareness Day at the Capitol.  The aim of the day’s events was to raise awareness of the further action required to fight Minnesota’s continuing opioid crisis and reduce the devastating effects caused by these drugs.  In addition to a rally of advocacy groups and a press conference, yesterday included an important hearing in the Health and Human Services Reform Committee for my colleague Rep. Dave Baker’s Opioid Family Recovery Act.  This bipartisan legislation charges opioid companies doing business in Minnesota a fee, and uses the revenue generated from said fee to bolster existing recovery, education, and child protection efforts.

With yesterday being Opioid Day, I wanted to commend the outstanding work of Little Falls’ CHI St. Gabriel’s Controlled Substance Care Team.  Dr. Heather Bell testified at yesterday morning’s hearing on behalf of the group, which has been an early leader in the efforts to combat the opioid crisis.  By focusing on monitoring opioid prescriptions, reducing the number of available opioids, and working to make treatment more accessible to addicts, this group’s efforts have made a difference and stand as an exemplary model for other treatment clinics throughout Minnesota.

Fish Fry Friday
If you’re hungry tonight, be sure to swing by the Royalton American Legion for a fish fry from 5:00 to 8:00pm.  If you would like your local fish fry mentioned in my email updates, please send me the details and I’ll make sure I include it going forward.

Please Contact Me
As always, please call or email me with any questions, concerns, or ideas, on any matter of state government that you may have.  Also, if you’re planning to visit, please schedule a time for us to sit down and chat.  I value the input I receive from constituents and would love to hear from you.

Have a great, safe weekend,

Ron
