News From Representative Kresha 1-27-2017

Friday, January 27, 2017

Dear Neighbors,

It looks like an ideal weekend to head out to the lake for some ice fishing. With highs in the mid to upper 20’s it should be perfect to try for some walleyes or crappies. We better get out there while we can, it’s already almost February!

Health Insurance Reform Becomes Law

Yesterday, we passed a bill to provide health insurance premium relief and needed reforms to help Minnesotans. Governor Dayton quickly signed the legislation and it is already law in our state. Even though we have divided government in St. Paul, we were able to work across party lines and provide health insurance premium relief and overdue reforms. Our health care system is such a mess, but these reforms will help increase competition and choice while preserving access for those in need. I’m encouraged by these early steps in the first month of session, and can’t wait to see what other ideas come forward this year.

Pro-Israel Legislation

I recently introduced a bill, HF400, ensuring state dollars are not being used to combat the nation of Israel. The legislation bars the state of Minnesota from engaging in business contracts with companies who politically boycott Israel.

A bipartisan group of legislators in the House believes the state of Minnesota shouldn’t engage in government contracts with businesses who endorse controversial, discriminatory policies. The entire Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement by some businesses is a flat-out disservice to one of America’s greatest allies. I’ll keep you updated as we move this legislation through the House.

Local Market

Be sure to head out to the Growers and Makers Market this weekend to support local producers. The event is tomorrow from 10am until 4pm at the Sprout Food Hub in Little Falls. If you’d like more information, please click here for details.
