RELEASE: Representative Johnson Legislation Removes Firearm Permit Expiration

Tuesday, March 8, 2022

St. Paul – Representative Brian Johnson (R-Cambridge) is sponsoring legislation to remove firearm permit expirations. Currently in Minnesota, firearm permits expire five years after they are issued.

“Law-abiding firearm owners face a lot of governmental oversight. This is one way we can give gun-owners the opportunity to exercise their Second Amendment right without interference,” Johnson said.

The legislation would allow for firearm permits to never expire beginning August 1, 2022. The new permits would be issued to the owner and would state that they do not expire.

More information on the legislation can be found here.
